5 Suspects arrested after fleeing in stolen car and committing theft

LYNNWOOD, WA August 15, 2016, Monday

On August 15, 2016 at about 2:25 pm, Lynnwood Police received a call of a theft in progress at the Kohl’s store located at 18405 Alderwood Mall Blvd.  There were multiple suspects involved in the theft that fled the store and entered a waiting gray Hyundai Elantra, which was a reported stolen car out of Seattle.  There were a total of five suspects occupying the stolen Hyundai as it left the area.

A couple of Lynnwood Police units were in the area.   An officer observed the suspect vehicle driving erratically and sideswipe multiple cars in the 18600 block of Alderwood Mall Parkway and then flee scene.  At this point the officer initiated a pursuit of the suspect vehicle.  The suspect vehicle drove southbound on Alderwood Mall Blvd.  After about four blocks the officer terminated the pursuit for safety reasons due to increasing traffic on the roadway combined with the very erratic driving of the suspect..  Despite the termination of the pursuit, the suspect vehicle continued westbound on Alderwood Mall Blvd. at a high rate of speed.

The suspect vehicle entered the intersection of Alderwood Mall Blvd. and 44th Avenue West against a red signal, causing a three-car collision.  The driver of the third car, an adult woman, received minor injuries.  The suspect car fled the area and caused another collision in the 19800 block of 48th Ave West, and continue to flee.  The victim of this hit and run was not injured.

The suspect vehicle may have been involved in additional hit and run collisions in south Lynnwood before fleeing into the City of Edmonds.

A citizen called in a vehicle left at a church parking lot (22900 block of Edmonds Way, Edmonds, WA) with the doors open and subjects running from it. Officers responded and confirmed that it was the suspect vehicle.  An extensive, coordinated search involving the Lynnwood Police, Edmonds Police, and the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office (including three different K-9 units) resulted in the apprehension of all five suspects.

Lynnwood Detectives are investigating and will determine the appropriate criminal charges on the suspects.
