Senate Republican Leader John Braun, R-Centralia, on a recent state audit that uncovered widespread non-compliance and staggering overpayment rates within the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF):

“This audit confirms what many of us have feared. While those in the majority party in Olympia continue to grow the size of the state bureaucracy at record rates, they have completely abandoned their duty to provide basic oversight and protect taxpayer dollars."

Sen. Nikki Torres, R-Pasco, on a letter from lawmakers urging the governor to veto the recently approved state income tax:

“We’re calling on the governor to stand with the people of Washington, who have rejected an income tax at the ballot box 10 times. This proposal ignores their voice, defies nearly 90 years of judicial precedent, and further erodes trust in government.”
