Bad Bill to Watch:

SB 6346 (Pedersen): Establishes a new state income tax starting at 9.9% on income over $1 million, projected to raise roughly $4 billion per year while returning only a small share in tax reductions. The tax is framed as targeting only high earners but creates a precedent for a broader income tax that could be expanded over time, adds a new revenue stream without significant offsetting relief, and includes provisions that limit voter referendum options. The proposal increases long-term tax burdens, risks Washington’s competitive advantage as a no-income-tax state, and directs most new revenue to government spending rather than meaningful tax reform.

Tell the Senate Ways & Means Committee and all Democrat legislators that you OPPOSE Senate Bill 6346.

Quotes
Gildon Jan 2026

Operating Budget Leader Chris Gildon, R-Puyallup, on the Democrats' proposed income tax:

“Washington used to promote the fact that it had no income tax, knowing how employers and entrepreneurs appreciate stability and transparency. This bill upends both. The first million might be exempt today, but once the framework is in place, every income level is on the table tomorrow.”

QuotesSen. Braun

Republican Leader John Braun, R-Centralia, on the income-tax proposal:

"Democrats justify this by arguing that our tax code is regressive, but this proposal doesn't repeal any regressive taxes. They simply want more money. It’s never enough.”
