Oppose the income tax: Sign in "CON" for Friday's hearing on Senate Bill 6346
Sign in CON before today's 1:30 p.m. hearing and call Democrat legislators to oppose the income tax
 Dear Friends and Neighbors,
The unconstitutional income tax (Senate Bill 6346) proposed by Democrats this week will be heard in the Senate Ways & Means Committee at 1:30 p.m. meeting this TODAY in Senate Hearing Room 4 of the John A. Cherberg Building on the Capitol Campus in Olympia.
As of 9:00 a.m. today, more than 54,000 people signed in to oppose the bill.
This makes it the most unpopular bill in state history! In fact, some Democrats are saying that this has to be due to a BOT. It's not! Those are 54,000 real people who took the time to say "NO."
Don't let up. If you haven't signed in CON yet, you have until 1:30 today. You can also call the sponsor of the bill and the chair of the Ways & Means Committee to tell them how you feel.
Tell the Senate Ways & Means Committee and Democrat legislators that you OPPOSE Senate Bill 6346.

Not only did Democrats waive the required five-day waiting period before a the bill could get a hearing, they are only allowing ONE HOUR of public comment for a deeply unpopular bill that will violate the state constitution. They granted more time for public testimony on a bill to legalize the use of psilocybin -- the psychedelic compound in "magic mushrooms."
This is your chance to tell the majority that Washingtonians do NOT want an income tax.
Since Democrats dropped the bill, we've heard from people across the political spectrum who adamantly oppose an income tax in Washington. They know that an income tax on anyone will become an income tax on everyone.
Voters have rejected an income tax 10 times -- 11 if you count the advisory vote against it. And don't be fooled by the "Millionaire's Tax" title. It hits small business hard.
Democrats argue this bill is necessary to "right our upside down tax code." If they were so concerned about our tax code being regressive, why did they propose MORE THAN 70 OTHER NEW AND HIGHER TAXES this year?
It will expand to include us all.
Democrats have made moves to expand the income tax on capital gains since it took effect in 2022, and expanding this income tax to include most of Washington WILL happen. Even a House Democrat publicly said that the public should not assume that this tax won't eventually hit us all.
As written, the people can't overturn it through referendum.
Worst of all, SB 6346 includes a clause that prevents the people from getting a chance to repeal it via referendum. The governor said the people will get a chance to vote on this tax, and that is not true unless the people do so through an initiative. Interestingly, Democrats have also been attacking the citizen initiative process through legislation they have sponsored.
It's unconstitutional.
The Washington State Constitution prohibits an income tax that taxes people at different rates. In Article VII Section 1, it says "All taxes shall be uniform upon the same class of property..." When SB 6346 is challenged in court, proponents are hoping that the liberal Washington State Supreme Court rules that income is not property.
Why is this income tax wrong for Washington?
- It's a 9.9% tax on income.
- It takes $4 billion PER YEAR from Washingtonians and doesn't provide meaningful tax relief.
- YOU will NOT get a chance to vote on it: The bill contains a "necessity clause" that prevents the people from overturning it through referendum.
- It contains a "marriage penalty" by taxing couples who combined make $1 million.
- It hurts small business, taking money from them that would be invested back into the business.
- It applies to income from public pensions.
"Do the Democrats who run Olympia think Washingtonians are fools?"
-Sen. John Braun
