Washington State Legislature Picture in Picture ASL Interpretation Service
Washington State Legislature sent this bulletin at 11/30/2023 03:36 PM PSTGreetings,
The Washington State Legislature, in collaboration with TVW, is piloting picture-in-picture American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for select House and Senate committee hearings during the 2024 Legislative Session. While this view is not available in the hearing rooms, it is available on TVW and TVW.org. This service is provided to increase access to the legislative process for persons who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
The preliminary schedule for picture-in-picture ASL interpretation hearings for the following week will be made available on Fridays, subject to change. Requests to provide this service for specific hearings or all hearings cannot be accommodated during this pilot. The schedule can be found at:
- Washington State Legislature website: https://app.leg.wa.gov/committeeschedules/
- TVW: https://tvw.org/schedule/
The picture-in-picture service is distinct from individual, onsite ASL interpretation requests for persons attending hearings or meetings, which is a separate process coordinated through ADA Coordinators in the House and Senate. These requests can be made through the ADA Coordinators, whose information can be found on the Washington State Legislature Website under Accessibility Information.
Please email questions, comments, and ASL pilot feedback to ASLPIP@leg.wa.gov.
