Re: Medically Compliant Cannabis – Packaging and Labeling Guidance
From: Justin Nordhorn, Director of Policy and External Affairs

Greetings cannabis licensee,

The Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB) produced new guidance about updating packaging and labeling for Department of Health (DOH) medically compliant cannabis products.

Recently cannabis licensees expressed interest in an allowance that would let cannabis retailers  put a DOH medically compliant sticker - with the appropriate logo -  as detailed in WAC 246-70-090 on existing product in retail stores without getting the cannabis-infused edible packaging and labeling reapproved by the LCB.

Due to the factors identified in the new guidance document cannabis retailers will not be able to update packaging for products already in their retail stores.

The new guidance document covers when packaging may be updated by a processor and offers clarity on specific medically compliant products, including when packaging needs to be reapproved and compliance on LCB and DOH administrative rules for medically compliant packaging and labeling.

The guidance document in its entirety is available here. Questions about the guidance can be sent to Director of Policy and External Affairs, Justin Nordhorn, at justin.nordhorn@lcb.wa.gov.
