Invitation to LCB’s Deliberative Dialogue on Cannabis Plant Chemistry
Panel will discuss THC compounds other than delta-9: Q & A session included

Members of the public and the cannabis industry are invited to attend a deliberative dialogue session about rule making related to tetrahydrocannabinols (THC) other than delta-9.

Today, May 12, 2021 the LCB Board approved a pre-proposal statement of inquiry (CR 101) to open rule development on the regulation of THC compounds other than delta-9. Rules will consider how the Board will evaluate additives, solvents, ingredients or compounds used in the production or processing of marijuana products other than delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol to determine whether such substances pose a risk to public health or youth access.

On April 28, 2021, the Board issued Policy Statement Number PS-21-01 about THC compounds other than delta-9. The agency will now begin the process of rule development for these topics. The public participation for this rulemaking begins with this first Deliberative Dialogue on Cannabis Plant Chemistry.

How were panelists selected?

For the first panel discussion on this topic, LCB asked a diverse group of professionals with experience in cannabis plant science. Panelists include:

  • David Gang, Director of the Tissue Imaging and Proteomic Laboratory, WSU
  • Jessica Tonani, CEO of Verda Bio Research
  • Nephi Stella, Stella Lab, Cannabinoid Pharmacology and Neuro-Oncology, UW
  • Amber Wise, Medicine Creek Analytics
  • Brad Douglas, Organic Chemist, The Werc Shop

Meeting outline

  • LCB’s Policy and Rules manager Kathy Hoffman will moderate the session. It will begin with information on the topic, panel introductions, and expectations for panelists and participants. The agenda is linked here.
  • Panelists will talk about their knowledge and experience with the subject matter.
  • Interactive Question and Answer session (using the hand-raising feature in WebEx) to allow participants and listeners to ask the panelists questions.
