Stress, a physical or mental response to an external cause, is a familiar experience for most. But, if you notice persistent feelings of dread or apprehension that interfere with your life, anxiety may be developing as a reaction to stress.
Because stress and anxiety can overwhelm your mental and physical health, it may disrupt your regular routines causing you to forget to schedule or go to medical appointments, or miss taking prescribed medications or supplements. Talking with your medical provider about safe coping options may help to get you back on track. You can review the “I’m So Stressed Fact Sheet,” HERE from the National Institute of Mental Health for information and coping tips.
For those providing or coordinating family care, stress can be compounded. Reaching out to peers who have been in your shoes or professionals who know about resources can bring a sense of relief by helping you to feel less alone and by learning about types of support you may not have known before.
When you’re ready to connect, Kitsap County Aging and Long Term Care is your local go-to for learning about free or lower-cost programs and services for family/friend caregivers. You may click the links below for information about the programs they, or partner organizations, provide.
