Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month

Although changes in the brain are somewhat expected over time, not all of them are something to chalk-up to typical aging. Early awareness about brain health can prompt sooner medical care to correct a problem that isn’t dementia, possibly slow the progression of dementia, and give more time to you and the person you help, for planning future caregiving and legal decisions.

During Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness month, throughout June, the Alzheimer’s Association is offering free, virtual presentations about brain health, research, and treatments. See their website HERE for the schedule of “Research Tuesdays” and registration links.

If you’re curious to learn more about possible warning signs of dementia and ways you can help someone with memory loss, the Alzheimer’s Association and other organizations offer a variety of additional options, listed below:

Documents Meeting REAL ID Standards for Domestic Air Travel

The REAL ID Act establishes minimum security standards for state-issued driver licenses and ID cards. Since May 7, 2025, anyone traveling by airplane or visiting certain federal facilities must use a REAL ID-compliant document. Here in Washington State, standard driver’s licenses and ID cards can be used by state residents to drive or as identification. Since May 7, 2025, however, they are no longer accepted as valid forms of ID for boarding domestic flights however, if you do not have a REAL ID compliant document you will still be allowed to fly – there will just be additional screening by TSA. The identification documents that do meet REAL ID standards and can be used to board domestic flights since May 7, 2025, include:

  • Enhanced Driver License (EDL)
  • Enhanced Identification Card (EID)
  • US Military ID
  • US or Foreign Passport
  • Permanent resident card (green card)
  • Federally recognized tribal-issued photo ID For more information about the REAL ID Act and the steps you can take to become compliant, visit Real ID - Washington State Department of Licensing
