Construction underway on new South Kitsap shelter
The Kitsap County Department of Human Services announced construction is underway at the Pacific Building, site of a new 20,000 square foot temporary housing solution that will have room for up to 75 beds for individuals and families in need of shelter. The facility, located at 4459 SE Mile Hill Drive in South Kitsap, is expected to open in November 2024.
The shelter is part of Kitsap County’s Homeless Crisis Response and Housing Plan that includes action steps to increase the number of emergency housing beds available in different geographic areas of the county. Kitsap County purchased the building in 2021 and has a team of professionals, including contracted architects, engineers, site planners and a general contractor, to repurpose this former athletic club into a fully operational shelter. The facility will provide 24-hour-per-day services to registered guests, including physical and mental health care, substance recovery assistance, job placement, housing assistance, meals, laundry, personal hygiene, and safe storage of their possessions.
