Krista Carlson joins Kitsap County as the new Communications Manager and Public Information Officer. The position serves as the primary county media liaison and spokesperson on general county issues and announcements. She begins her position with Kitsap County November 27.
This role oversees development and management of internal and external communications including outreach to the public, stakeholders, communities, and other agencies. Krista will manage the use of communication technology and platforms, including the county website, electronic notification system, and social media accounts. She will also coordinate county communications and outreach staff to ensure effective, coordinated communications and distribution of emergency information.
“The Board of Commissioners is delighted to have a centralized communication manager and public information officer to coordinate Kitsap County’s outreach both internally and to the public,” said Commissioner Charlotte Garrido, chair of the Board of County Commissioners. “We are committed to ensuring our communications are inclusive in reaching everyone both during emergency situations and in sharing the everyday business of the county. It is vital the public can easily and efficiently access county services and resources, stay informed and actively engaged in planning and proposed policies that impact residents.”
Krista brings over 20 years of professional communications experience, directing communications for several Washington state agencies and the Bremerton and Bethel school districts, and as a news writer with KING 5. She has extensive experience developing and implementing effective communication strategies to increase public awareness of essential services, capital projects, and legislative policies. With her newswriting background and experience leading emergency and incident response communications in the transportation, education, construction, and media industries, Krista’s skills in building inclusive, high-performing, cross-functional teams will support all of Kitsap County government.

Krista is a Washington State University graduate with a degree in communications-broadcast news and is working towards completion of the Chief Marketing Officer program at Northwestern University. She received numerous awards as a communications leader and news writer and has lifelong roots in Kitsap County.
