Consumer fireworks sales begin today
(Port Orchard, WA) - Consumer fireworks sales at stands and locations across Kitsap County, Port Orchard, Bremerton, and Poulsbo began today at noon. Fireworks are available for purchase from licensed retailers between now and the 4th of July. The sale or discharge of fireworks is prohibited on Bainbridge Island.
Fireworks can be discharged legally only on the 4th of July, between 11:AM and 11 PM.
David Lynam, Kitsap County's Fire Marshal, joins with the Kitsap County Fire Chiefs Association in wishing everyone a happy and safe fourth of July celebration and recommends that fireworks should be enjoyed by leaving them to the professionals – and enjoying either the Kingston or Port Orchard firework shows.
Lynam recommends that if you choose to use consumer fireworks – buy them from one of the local retailers, that way you can be sure to have only those items legal for sale and discharge. Some Tribal stands sell fireworks legal to discharge on Tribal land, but illegal off Tribal land. Use this chart to help ensure you purchase fireworks that are legal for where you plan to discharge them.
Lynam also adds that the fire situation is very different than last year. “Weather this year is anticipated to be cooler, overcast and perhaps a little shower or two,” said Lynam. “Although fire danger is decreased due to the abnormally cool, wet weather this spring – a busy season is still anticipated,” said Lynam.
