Not all wrapping paper is recyclable
Plain paper and gift bags can be recycled, but put the glossy, metallic, and glittery papers into the trash. These fancy papers are made with layers of plastics and metals, and don’t contain enough paper fibers to be useful to recyclers. Avoid using them if you can.
Bows and ribbons? Those are trash too.
Instead of buying gift wrap, try the tried-and-true method of repurposing newspaper or brown grocery bags. Both are recyclable.
Or avoid paper altogether and wrap with reusable tea towels, reusable shopping bags, or fabrics. Make the wrapper a part of your gift or save them to use again next year.
If you are unsure what is recyclable or not when you're at one of our facilities, ask a friendly attendant. They are happy to show you the difference! Discover more tips on recycling other holiday items on our holiday webpage.
We often host a Styrofoam collection event near the holidays. However, this time our vendor is unable to provide services in our county due to labor shortages. We are not hosting a collection event this season.
Please bag Styrofoam, and put it in the trash. If you happen to be driving to the area, Styro Recycle in Kent accepts clean, dry foam free of all tape and labels.
