You are Invited!
Join Kitsap County at Upcoming Zoning Use Table Update Meetings!   

The Kitsap County Department of Community Development (DCD) is updating the Zoning Allowed Use Tables found in Kitsap County Code Title 17 ‘Zoning’, Chapter 17.410, and we want to hear from you.

To promote timely information sharing and transparency throughout the process, the County will host project updates via Zoom Webinar on Thursday, August 19, 2021, and September 16, 2021, at 5:30 pm.  You can find more information about these and other upcoming meetings below.

 
What is the Goal of this Update?

The primary goal of the Zoning Use Table Update is to reduce barriers to investment in Urban Growth Areas (UGA), Limited Areas of More Intense Rural Development (LAMIRD), and the rural commercial and rural industrial zones. 

The project will address:  

  • Housing Equity and Diversity
    The project will encourage a wide array of housing product types within the various urban and LAMIRD zones, including addressing gaps in the land use categories and definitions.

  • Economic Development
    The project will encourage economic development by:
  • Scaling land uses to streamline the level of permit review required.
  • Adding new land uses based on projects submitted to the Department and a comparison of other jurisdictions.
  • Making the Code Easier to Use
    Finally, the project will improve predictability and ease of use for applicants and permit reviewers.

 

What will the Virtual Project Upcoming Meetings Cover?

These meetings will provide a chance for you and other community members to learn about the zoning use table update as it progresses and ask project staff questions. At the August project update, the County will provide an overview of proposed code amendments, provide information about the upcoming public comment period, and will include public participation opportunities.

Meeting participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during a moderated community Q&A. Please note, comments on the Department’s draft proposal need to be submitted through the formal public comment period beginning on August 20, 2021, to be included in the record for consideration by the Kitsap County Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners.

Planning Commission Work Study Sessions. Join the planning commission on
August 17, 2021, and September 7, 2021, at 5:30 pm to learn about the proposed changes and supporting documents released on July 30, 2021. 

Planning Commission Public Comment Period. From August 20, 2021, to
September 21, 2021, Kitsap County will be accepting feedback on the proposed changes.
Your feedback is important as the planning commission considers a recommendation to the Department later this year prior to the Board of County Commissioners' consideration.

Planning Public Hearing
On September 21, 2021, share your feedback on the proposed changes with the Planning Commission prior to the Board of County Commissioner's consideration.

Planning Commission meetings are currently held remotely. There will not be a physical location for these meetings, but this may change as this process moves forward. The following web pages will provide up-to-date information regarding Planning Commission Meeting locations, video conference links, and call-in numbers prior to the meetings.
