Vaccine misinformation - addressing myths related to DNA

In recent weeks we've looked at some misinformation about vaccines circulating online. Among the most common vaccine myths are those related the question of the vaccines alter a person's DNA.

The mRNA vaccines teach your cells new skills, but they don’t change your DNA. In fact, mRNA vaccines can actually generate stronger immunity than traditional vaccines. COVID-19 vaccines do not change or interact with your DNA in any way. Both mRNA and viral vector COVID-19 vaccines deliver instructions (genetic material) to our cells to start building protection against the virus that causes COVID-19. However, the material never enters the nucleus of the cell, which is where our DNA is kept. Learn more COVID-19 facts here.
