Tires & Scrap Metal: Year-Round Recycling Options
Last weekend, Kitsap County Solid Waste hosted a tire and scrap metal collection event at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. Residents turned in a whopping 5,500 waste tires and 14.5 tons of scrap metal including 129 BBQ grills!
If you missed out on this event, don't fret. You can still take your tires, grills, and other scrap metal to many locations throughout the county. If your grill is in good condition, pass it along to someone else to use.
 Metal Recycling
There are many private metal recycling businesses in Kitsap.
If you choose to recycle at Olympic View Transfer Station or Silverdale Recycling and Garbage Facility, please remove nonmetal parts.
- Don't bring scrap metal items that are too large or heavy to carry up the stairs or lift into the containers at a facility.
- Don't leave your scrap metal on the ground.
- Take your large metal items to a private recycler. You may even get good money for the metal you recycle.
The Recycling and Garbage Facilities in Hansville and Olalla do not accept scrap metal.
Tire Recycling
Many tire shops recycle tires for a fee. Contact a local tire shop to ask about recycling fees and business hours.
Olympic View Transfer Station accepts passenger vehicle tires (17" rims or less) and commercial vehicle tires (18" - 22" rims) for a fee. However, the recycling fee at Olympic View may be higher than the fee at private tire shops.
The Recycling and Garbage Facilities in Hansville, Silverdale, and Olalla do not accept tires.
