Clear storm drains and report flooding

The Kitsap Peninsula is currently taking a beating with a deluge of rain and wind. This atmospheric river of moisture is expected to bring even more soggy conditions over the next 24 hours.

Kitsap County Public Works and your local jurisdiction are working hard to keep roads clear, but residents can help reduce the chance of flooding in their neighborhood.

Blocked Storm Drains - What to Do

  • Monitor neighborhood storm drains and keep them free of pooling water, leaves and debris.  This may mean clearing the drain repeatedly.
  • If you see a clogged storm drain, use a rake, shovel handle or stick to clear the drain.
  • NEVER remove a storm drain lid or attempt to clean a drain located in a busy street.
  • Do not wade into water when you are unsure of the depth.

"During large weather events like we are experiencing, we have crews out all around the county to minimize local flooding,” says Michelle Perdue, Kitsap County Stormwater Division Program Manager. “Residents can help by monitoring their neighborhood drains and contacting us if they see a problem."
