Learn more about a study on regional aviation needs through virtual meetings, open house
Regional demand for passengers flying out of the Puget Sound area is expected to double by 2050. A baseline study, funded with a $1.6 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration, will provide a clear picture of the aviation needs in the region and set the stage for future planning efforts.
The Puget Sound Regional Council seeks feedback on initial findings of the Regional Aviation Baseline Study through October 19 in an online open house.
Findings will also be presented in three virtual public meetings:
- Wednesday, September 23, 5:00 – 6:30 pm | Register
- Tuesday, September 29, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm | Register
- Wednesday, September 30, 8:00 – 9:30 am | Register
Public comment and feedback gathered through these meetings and the open house will help regional decision makers and airports plan for the future. The input will also be provided to the Commercial Aviation Coordinating Commission to inform its recommendations on ways to address the region’s aviation needs.
Aviation plays a critical role for people and businesses in the growing central Puget Sound region, currently home to 29 airports of varied sizes and functions. Continued, coordinated planning is essential to ensure the regional airport system can support existing and future demands. Population, employment, and income growth drives regional aviation demand and this long-term trend is expected to continue even considering the short-term effects of COVID-19.
The Puget Sound Regional Council develops policies and coordinates decisions about regional growth, transportation, and economic development planning within Kitsap, King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. PSRC is composed of over 80 jurisdictions, including all four counties, cities and towns, ports, state and local transportation agencies, and tribal governments within the region.
