April 1, 2020
Kitsap County Public Works is moving forward with a Facility Access Plan to allow limited access to county waste facilities during the coronavirus pandemic.
Limited resident access to Olympic View Transfer Station on April 4 and 5 only
Kitsap County residents will have limited access to Olympic View Transfer Station (near the Bremerton airport) on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5 only. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
These facilities remain closed: Recycling and Garbage Facilities in Hansville, Silverdale, Olalla; Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility.
If residents follow the safety and disposal guidelines outlined below, we will announce more dates for limited resident access to Olympic View Transfer Station. We may also reopen other waste facilities for limited resident access.
Olympic View Transfer Station disposal guidelines for April 4 and 5, 2020:
-
Household garbage in bags or cans only. Only bring household garbage that is a public health hazard (contains food, diapers, could attract animals/birds, or has an odor). Waste must be bagged or secured in a can. No loose waste.
-
Limit six bags or six cans. We are limiting the amount of waste you can bring. You can bring up to six trash bags (large contractor cleanup size is OK) or six trash cans. No loose waste.
-
Visa/Mastercard only. You must pay with a Visa or Mastercard. You will be charged the $22 minimum fee (tax included). Prepaid Visa/Mastercard is accepted. No cash, check, American Express, Discover.
-
Pay when you enter. You will pay at the entrance window, not at the exit window. Be ready with your card.
-
Secure waste. All waste must be properly secured to your vehicle. Tie-down cans, can lids, or securely cover your entire load with a tarp.
-
Don't converse. Facility staff will not engage in conversations or answer questions unrelated to waste. Please do not interact with traffic control (flaggers) or law enforcement.
-
Stay safe. Stay at least 6 feet away from other people at all times. Do not visit if you or someone in your home is sick. Be prepared to unload quickly and safely. Wear closed toe shoes and gloves.
The following items will not be accepted because they are not an immediate public health threat (e.g. old furniture) or require too much staff interaction (e.g. needles):
- No large items (furniture, mattresses, wood, etc.) that won't fit in a bag or can.
- No spring cleanup items from your home, yard, or garage.
- No sharps/needles, appliances, TV/computers, tires, yard waste, wood waste.
- No hazardous waste or liquids.
- The recycling area is not open. Keep recyclables at home.
Keep these items at home, properly stored. If you have questions on how to store these items or if you feel you have an urgent need to bring these items (e.g. moving), please contact us through this online form. We are here to help.
