Please prepare materials at home

To keep the line moving quickly, we ask that you prepare materials at home:

  • Remove all tape and labels.
  • Make sure materials are clean and dry.
  • Sort materials by color and type.

This event is for Kitsap households only. One carload per home, but we encourage you to ask friends and neighbors if they have foam you can bring for them. No businesses, trailers, or box trucks.

What happens to the foam?

Collected materials are sent through a densifier machine (YouTube) to remove the air. Kitsap County doesn't own one of these machines (although we're researching them), so our vendor Styro Recycle LLC currently handles the materials. The compressed foam blocks are then sold to manufacturers of eyeglass frames, picture frames, clothing hangers, and more.
