We recommend that paying customers avoid Olympic View on June 9, if possible. Paying customers can expect longer than normal wait times. It will not be possible to make a quick "recycling run" because this event will occupy the lane to the recycling area. (See our traffic flow map below.)

Be Prepared Secure your load. Even if your items are large or heavy, you must secure them to your vehicle with straps or chains. Tarps and nets alone are not enough for large items. Law enforcement will be helping with our event and are authorized to issue citations for unsecured loads. Watch this video by the Washington State Patrol to learn how to properly secure your load. Don’t bring other stuff. If you bring other trash or recycling, you will have to pay for your entire load (including junk furniture).

Stay with your vehicle for safety and to prevent delays.

Bring water, sunscreen, and snacks.

No restroom available. Although there is a public restroom at the main building, it may not be possible to safely leave your vehicle without delaying the line. 

Bring a reliable vehicle. If your vehicle breaks down, you may hold up the line. Tow trucks will not be able to easily enter the site during the event.

All furniture loads must be dumped by 4 p.m. Depending on wait times, we may turn away vehicles before 4 p.m. This is to make sure customers in line make it to the drop-off area by 4 p.m. Late vehicles will be routed into the “paying customer” lane.

Accepted and Not Accepted

Accepted Items: ​Mattresses, box springs, sofas, chairs, recliners, bookcases, entertainment centers, tables, desks, sleeper sofas, patio furniture, beds, dressers, file cabinets, baby furniture, etc.

Not Accepted: Appliances, TVs, computers, monitors, lawn mowers, rototillers, hazardous materials, household garbage, lumber. Visit Recycle.KitsapGov.com to find disposal or recycling sites for these items.

Please do not bring metal furniture or good condition furniture: Recycle metal furniture at scrap metal sites  and donate, sell, or give away good condition items at charity shops.

Wait times may be longer than one hour. If you don’t want to wait or can’t attend this event, please pay for disposal.

Olympic View Transfer Station's minimum fee is $22 (tax included). Most furniture (including mattresses, couches, and chairs) are charged the garbage rate. Facility operators have the final say about rates, which depend on the amount and type of waste.

Our smaller Recycling and Garbage Facilities charge by volume, not weight. These facilities have special rates for some common furniture items:

• Mattress, box spring, recliner: $11 each + 3.6% WA Waste Collection Tax

• Sofa: $13.50 each + 3.6% WA Waste Collection Tax

• Sofa with bed: $27 each + 3.6% WA Waste Collection Tax
