Getting a new BBQ grill? Here's what to do with the old one.

First, try to sell it or give it away on Craigslist or in a local Facebook or Nextdoor group. Your local “Buy Nothing” group is a great place to gift unwanted stuff.

Even if your grill is not useable, someone may want to pick it up and recycle it as scrap metal.

If nobody wants your old grill...

Take it to a scrap metal recycler (unless it’s totally rusty). Here's how:

  1. Remove the propane tank if there is one. If you need to get rid of the tank, follow these instructions.
  2. Remove non-metal parts (knobs, handles) if you can.
  3. Thank it for all those tasty kebabs.
  4. Take it to a private scrap metal recycler or auto wrecker. Give them a call first to make sure they’ll accept it.

Kitsap County's Olympic View Transfer Station and the Central Kitsap Recycling and Garbage Facility in Silverdale accept scrap metal, but only if you can safely lift the item up stairs and into the large containers.

You cannot leave your scrap metal on the ground near the container, so bring a buddy or two to help. These containers fill up quickly on the weekends.
