Office of Minority & Women's Business Enterprises

omweb

The Office of Minority and Women's Business Enterprises leads the statewide program as the sole agency that certifies minority- and women-owned business enterprises to participate in public contracting and procurement.

This program includes a comprehensive certification process, small business support services, and the Supplier Diversity team that works with the Governor’s Subcabinet on Business Diversity, state agencies, and institutions of higher education to instill equitable and inclusive purchasing practices.

These efforts help small businesses owned by minorities, women, and veterans to obtain more government contracts which strengthens our communities, makes our economy more resilient, and improves the quality of life for all Washingtonians.

The City of Kirkland has resources available for businesses who are looking to work through this certification process. For more information, please contact Daniel Lazo dlazo@kirklandwa.gov.

Leaf Blower Trade-In Event

Do you use a gas-powered leaf blower to maintain the sidewalk and street appearance of your storefront? If so, and if you live in Kirkland, you are eligible to participate in our electric leaf blower trade-in event in September.

Bring your gas-powered leaf blower to be recycled and receive a $100 voucher that can be used towards the purchase of an electric leaf blower at participating Kirkland businesses.

The trade-in event will be held on September 28th, 2024 at the North Kirkland Community Center.
We will be collecting gas-powered blowers and handing out vouchers from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM.

More information can be found here.

BYOC Is Looking for Coffee Shop Partners!

b

We are still accepting partners for the BYOC campaign!

BYOC is a fun and engaging initiative designed to help us reduce single-use cup waste. By participating, our community is working together to adopt reuse habits that make a positive difference for the environment.

It's not too late to join - We have had lots of partner coffee shops and people participating by bringing their own cup and posting cup selfies on social media. Each week one of the reuse champions that posted a cup selfie will be selected to receive tickets to fun summer events, and in September we will have a grand prize drawing for an e-bike from Propella.

Find out more and continue to help reduce waste by visiting www.eastsidebyoc.com!

If you would like your business to partner with BYOC this summer, please reach out to Mikayla Binns at MBinns@kirklandwa.gov.
