No Idling Campaign

No Idling

What is something simple that we can do to help with climate change and improve our air quality, all while saving money? Stop unnecessary car idling!

According to a US Department of Energy report Americans waste about 3 billion gallons of fuel annually by idling their personal vehicles. For instance, if you are waiting in a drive-through or parked to use your phone, turn off your engine.

Idling for more than 10 seconds uses more fuel and produces more emissions than stopping and starting your engine. It’s also better for your car’s engine. Modern internal combustion engines do not need to idle to “warm up.”

This small action is a win for everyone. Take the pledge to turn off your car if you’re parked for more than 10 seconds. Ask your family and friends to do the same.
(This does not apply to EV drivers.)
