Free Play Program! NEW

Family in park

What is the Free Play Program?
Free Play is field time for the community to enjoy passive, drop-in, informal play in a Kirkland park athletic field. This program is perfect for personal, casual, spontaneous use, like a mom and son tossing a ball, friends playing Ultimate Frisbee, or a family enjoying kickball. Go have fun!

Here’s the Free Play schedule thru June 6, 2023:

Weekdays: 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Mondays:  Highlands Park
Tuesdays: Juanita Beach Park Field 3
Wednesdays: Terrace Park
Thursdays: Spinney Homestead Park
Fridays: Crestwoods Park Field 3 & Juanita Beach Park Field 3

Weekends: See Times Below
Saturdays: Crestwoods Park Field 1 from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Sundays: Crestwoods Park Field 3 from 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Juanita Beach Park Field 2 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Are Certain Activities Not Allowed During Free Play? Yes.

  • Certain categories require a Facility Use Permit or a contract with the City to use a park so using a park during Free Play isn’t possible. (I.e., business uses, like instructors serving clients for payment or for free (dog trainers, personal trainers), and league/team use (one on one coaching, team players practicing with or without a coach, etc.).)
  • Groups/clubs which are organized, and/or repetitive, and/or large are also not permissible. (I.e., running clubs, Ultimate Frisbee/Soccer clubs, etc.)
  • Unsafe, high-risk, damaging activities are also not allowed.
    • I.e., golf, archery, remote control activities, laser tag, Bubble Soccer, etc.
    • I.e., digging, stakes that may penetrate irrigation, paint, etc.

It's Spring!! It's time to get Farmer’s Market Season started!!

Juanita Friday Market Logo

June 2nd is the opening of the 17th season of the Juanita Friday Market. The 2023 season will continue to be held at Juanita Beach Park every Friday from 3 PM to 7 PM, beginning June 2nd through September 29th, rain or shine.

Once again, the fare will consist of fresh produce, flowers, baked goods, hand crafted confections, beverages, as well as offerings from local artisans and crafters. The location at the park provides families a place to come and enjoy the Market and the beach, playground, and other park amenities.

The Juanita Friday Market has become a favorite for Foodies, Families and Everyone (or anyone) in between. Live entertainment will be provided weekly, sponsored by Parkshore Juanita Bay. The Busy Lil Bees Kids Booth is sponsored by Kirkland Kid’s Dentistry. Crafts and games will be available as well as face painting one Friday per month.

This year the State of Washington’s Food Nutrition Program has gone electronic. The new eFMNP program will offer an easier and more usable method for Seniors and WIC to buy from vendors at the market.

Come with your friends or meet new ones; and enjoy shopping for delicious and nutritious foods, as well as cider and coffee beans. Then try one, or more, of our hot food vendors for a varied menu of offerings. We look forward to seeing you at Juanita Beach on these spring and summer Friday afternoons and evenings.

Summer Watering Volunteers Needed!

Watering

The Green Kirkland Partnership needs your help this summer with volunteer watering to nurture baby native plants in the natural forested areas of Kirkland’s parks. This is a great opportunity to spend time in the cool and serene forest while helping your local park!

Volunteers in this role commit to serving 1 -2 hours per week, during most weeks June through August on their own time and schedule. Volunteers age 18 and over can serve solo while volunteers age 14-18 need to serve in teams (you bring your buddy). Volunteers under age 14 will need to serve alongside a parent/guardian.

Volunteers should be comfortable carrying water cans or hoses off-trail over uneven terrain to water baby trees in our forests. An interest form, service agreement, and brief orientation are required for this fun summer volunteer role.

Visit the Green Kirkland Summer Watering Role webpage for more details and to complete the interest form.

Visit www.greenkirkland.org for general information about community-based forest stewardship in Kirkland. Contact Green Kirkland via email greenkirkland@kirklandwa.gov with any questions.
