A Message from the Office of Emergency Management

Even though the weather remains slightly chilly (and snowy!), we fortunately have made it through the worst of the winter!

As winter ends, it’s time to look forward to the spring and summer months ahead. Here’s a reminder for some things you should consider doing to make sure you are the most prepared you can be:

  • Daylight Savings Time – Sunday, March 12: On top of “springing forward” an hour, this is a great time to check your fire and carbon monoxide alarms and replace the batteries, if needed.
  • Spring Cleaning: While you are clearing out your things, make sure you go through your emergency supplies and check the dates. Throw out any expired products, and make sure to replace them! This also would be a great time to give your fire extinguishers some love and invert them to loosen up any powder that might have settled at the bottom.

We want to hear from you!

The City of Kirkland Office of Emergency Management needs your input about where and how you engage in emergency preparedness activities in your neighborhood.

We’d love your participation in a quick survey about what you currently are involved in and what kinds of activities you’d be interested in!

Please submit your feedback by March 31st.

Mayor Penny Sweet delivered the annual State of the City address to the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce, during which she declared that the state of the City is "prepared." Mayor Sweet described how the City’s ability to endure and overcome COVID-19 was largely due to investments in emergency preparedness before the pandemic struck.

A video of Mayor Sweet’s speech can be viewed at this link: 2023 State of The City.

A transcript of the Mayor’s speech can be found at this link on the City’s website.
