Reduce Thanksgiving Waste

Reduce Thanksgiving Waste

Here are some helpful tips from the City’s Recycling Team on reducing waste during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Recycle your holiday cooking oil

Save your used cooking oil and bring it to our tank at North Kirkland Community Center to recycle into biodiesel! Never pour oil down the sink – it builds up in pipes and causes clogs. Learn more at kirklandwa.gov/cookingoil.

Make the right amount of food for the holidays with the Guestimator Tool

If you are hosting for the holidays, use this handy tool to figure out the right amount of food to prepare so you’re not left with more leftovers than you can eat! Also plan ahead so you can freeze extra leftovers as appropriate.

Want to incorporate some plant-based dishes into your holiday menu?
