Tip of the Term

Be safe with holiday lights and decorations! Make sure candles are kept clear of flammable materials, or swap them out for battery-powered alternatives. If you have a live tree in your home, make sure to water it regularly and keep it away from heat or flame sources.

One more tip: an emergency kit makes a great last minute present!

A Message from EM

2019 has been a growing year for the Kirkland Office of Emergency Management (OEM) with the addition of Karissa Smith as the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, as well as updates and additions to all program areas. We are looking forward to an engaging and active 2020! Happy Holidays!

CERT Corner

The Spring Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class is coming up in April and May! Class will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from April 21 - May 12, with the disaster drill on Saturday, May 16.

CERT is a fun, hands-on class to get you ready to help people around you during a large scale disaster. Learn more and sign up online.

Kirkland residents who have completed CERT are welcome to come back to any class session or the disaster drill for a refresher! We will also be looking for survivors volunteers for the CERT drill, so if you're interested save-the-date for Saturday, May 16.

The Market Neighborhood in Kirkland currently does not have a CERT Neighborhood Lead. If you live in Market, have completed CERT, and are interested in helping your neighbors plan to respond together, contact OEM at KirklandEM@kirklandwa.gov or (425) 941-3488.
