Charity Poker Tournament benefitting Friendship Adventures

Friendship Adventures is a Kirkland-based nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of people with developmental disabilities by providing social, recreational and educational activities in a safe, engaging environment. Friendship Adventures serves over 1,500 participants and offers more than 200 social events and educational classes each year. This charity poker tournament event helps support the important work accomplished by Friendship Adventures!

Piano Music of Russian Composers

This show features the talent of local student pianists! Performers include Scott Fisher Jr., Samuel Yi, Matthew Yi, Owen Zhang, Jiwon Kim, Bao-Vy Apple Tran, Bao-Chi Ada Tran, Collin Kim and Anna Wang.

Studio East and Annette Bovey present Seussical the Musical

“Oh, the thinks you can think…” Seussical The Musical bursts onto the stage in a fantastical, spectacular, musical extravaganza by Tony Award-winning composers Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Beloved characters including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, and the Whos collide in a journey spanning from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus. As Horton struggles to protect the Whos from injustice while sheltering an abandoned egg, will the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community be able to triumph? The Cat in the Hat is your magical master of ceremonies in this sensational smorgasbord of Seuss stories.

SRJO: Jazz of the Harlem Renaissance

November 3 | 2 p.m. | Kirkland Performance Center

SRJO continues its celebrated Harlem Renaissance series, which features fantastic music from the 1920s and 1930s, played as it was originally created and performed—with original instrumentation. The program includes early hits by the Jimmie Lunceford Orchestra, such as Uptown BluesHarlem Shout, and Big John Special, plus The Stampede by Fletcher Henderson and hits by Cab Calloway and Fats Waller. Guest vocalists Reggie Goings and Jacqueline Tabor from the Seattle jazz scene also join us to pay tribute to singers Ma Rainey (“Mother of the Blues”), Ivie Anderson and others.

Pacific Northwest Piano Competition

The community is invited to the first Pacific Northwest Piano Competition! This competition is designed to showcase the brightest and the best young pianists in the Pacific Northwest. Cash prizes and performance opportunities are given to top award winners. This competition is proudly sponsored by Stage 7 Pianos in Kirkland. Special thanks to our Pacific Northwest Piano Competition Board Members, including Allan Park, President Dr. Adam Aleksander, 1st Vice President Nino Merabishvili, 2nd Vice President Dr. Hanna Cyba, Secretary Dr. Yelena Balabanova.

Parklane Gallery November Featured Artists

November 4 through December 1 | Parklane Gallery

Parklane Gallery’s November featured artists are Robert Franklin and Leanna Leitzke. Watercolorist Bob Franklin’s art illuminates the stunning natural beauty of tide pools, sea stacks and outcrops ranging from Oregon’s Haystack Rock to Washington’s Point of Arches. His show is called “The Shape of Water (color)” and features breathtaking northwest coastal scenes. Leanna Leitzke’s show is called “Universe of Dreams,” which is inspired by our mysterious universe. Community members are invited to attend the featured artist reception, which takes place 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 8.  

Imagination Theatre

Imagination Theater is back! Mystery, drama and laughter abound in America’s leading radio drama series regularly featuring private detective Harry Nile and tales of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Recorded live at KPC, America’s leading radio drama series is heard from coast to coast on more than 50 radio stations in North America, including KIXI in Seattle.

BoDeans

November 6 | 7 p.m. | Kirkland Performance Center

After a remarkable 30-year musical career of compelling songs and high energy performances, Wisconsin’s favorite musical sons have continued to deliver chart-topping radio singles! The BoDeans have created a sound that helped define a genre with songs like Good Things, You Don’t Get Much, Idaho, If it Makes You, Stay, All the World, and Closer to Free. The band’s accessible adult alternative sound has achieved many milestones, including a Rolling Stone reader’s poll for Best New American Band in 1987, support slots with U2, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Tom Petty, George Thorogood, The Pretenders, David Bowie and numerous others.

Investor Sharks Northwest

Investor Sharks Northwest is hosted by the Greater Kirkland Chamber of Commerce and Kirkland Performance Center. The purpose of the event is to help startup businesses from the Greater Seattle and Eastside area gain exposure and compete for a chance to pitch to a panel of investors made up of the biggest venture capitalists and angel investors in the Puget Sound region.

Evening with Booker T. Jones

November 8 | 8 p.m. | Kirkland Performance Center

Booker T., a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, winner of four GRAMMY Awards and recipient of a GRAMMY Award for Lifetime Achievement, performs the songs that make up the fabric of his musical identity and material from his new album Note by Note. Booker T. and the M.G.’s staples like “Green Onions” are woven into defining moments from his journey after Stax, when he produced and recorded with artists as diverse as Bill Withers, Willie Nelson and Carlos Santana. The fantastic musical experience culminates with new original music, highlighting the soaring guitar and vocals of his son and collaborator Teddy Jones. After the show, Booker T. will greet fans and sign copies of his memoir, Time is Tight, and new album, Note by Note.

Micky Dolenz lead singer of The Monkees

Micky Dolenz first established himself as a performer at age 10 after starring in his first TV series, and quickly gained fame through The Monkees, a TV show about a rock band that eventually went on to tour live as a real rock band. Dolenz is now an all-around performer extraordinaire.

Robert Cray Band

Robert Cray has been bridging the lines between blues, soul and R&B for the past four decades, with five Grammy wins! He is a Blues Hall of Fame inductee, a recipient of the Americana Lifetime achievement award, has been on countless tours and has released more than 20 acclaimed albums.

Rise Up

Rise Up is an ensemble of top Seattle vocalists and musicians that performs the amazing music of Hamilton. Hamilton is a record-breaking Broadway musical and winner of 11 Tony Awards including Best Musical. It is a sweeping national cultural phenomenon with music that marries hip hop, R&B and Broadway. Rise Up delivers a performance that captures all the sophistication, detail and emotion of the music of Hamilton. Rise Up has performed extensively in the Northwest, delighting theater, festival and club audiences at frequently sold out shows.

VALA Eastside Art Sale

VALA, which stands for Venues for Artists in the Local Area, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization dedicated to connecting artists to artists, artists to the community and the community to art. Sadly, the studio is closing, so please stop by to view featured original art by talent local artists. Enjoy spectacular paintings in a variety of mediums, handcrafted jewelry, pottery and much more. VALA is a multi-artist studio, showcasing local art by our region’s most talented artists! Support local artists at this special closeout sale. VALA is located at 11915 124th Ave. N.E. in Kirkland.

Lambros in Concert

Pianist Lambros Lambrou performs Prokofiev’s - Sonata No. 1, a sonatina concertante by Bulgarian composer Pancho Haralanov Vladigerov, along with other pieces by Vladigerov. He will additionally perform several pieces by Russian composer and pianist Nikolai Girshevich Kapustin. Refreshments are available at this event!

Spencer Welch: Nostalgia

November 18 | 4 p.m. | Kirkland Performance Center

Nostalgia is a sentimental feeling or a wistful memory of happy times in one’s past, but it can also be a powerful reminder of the good and the potential in our lives. Spencer Hardy Welch’s upcoming release, Nostalgia, explores this idea through original compositions and familiar standards, bringing to mind our fondest reflections and our dearest hopes. Spencer Hardy Welch is a composer, pianist and speaker who has been writing and performing music for most of his life. Raised in a musical family, he began a love affair with the piano at the age of five and started formal classical training when he was eight.

The American Romanian Cultural Society presents Freak Show

November 18 | 7:30 p.m. | Kirkland Performance Center

Performed by one of Romania’s most prominent and prolific young actors, Freak Show brings to life characters depicting the tragi-comic transition from communism to democracy. Freak Show, written, directed and performed by Florin Piersic Jr, is a dynamic tour de force that keeps the audience with bated breath for almost two hours. Florin Piersic Jr plays 13 characters (a fake billionaire, worker, banker, retiree, TV producer, professor, beggar, among others). You will watch a versatile actor who continuously changes parts in a hallucinatory chain of transformations. Event is performed in Romanian.

Jazz Unlimited presents LaVon Hardison in Concert

LaVon Hardison sings jazz standards, originals and her own eclectic and compelling arrangements of popular songs. In 2016, LaVon won the Seattle-Kobe Sister City Jazz Vocalist Audition at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley, claiming the prize of a jazz-soaked journey to Japan, performing in Kobe, Osaka and Tokyo. Warren Miller’s Timeless!

After seven decades of celebrating skiing and snowboarding, Warren Miller Entertainment can confirm that nothing compares to the anticipation of another season. Join the kickoff to winter with Warren Miller’s 70th filmTimeless, presented by Volkswagen, featuring ski legends like Glen Plake, alongside newcomers like Catie Zeliff, Jaelin Kauf and Baker Boyd. Shot on location in British Columbia, France, Austria, Switzerland, Colorado and Jackson Hole. Attendees will receive lift ticket discounts, free swag and more. Timeless is more than a ski and snowboard film, it’s an experience.

Seattle International Comedy Special

Seattle International Comedy Competition

America’s biggest touring comedy festival, the Seattle International Comedy Competition, brings five up-and-coming comics from around the country to compete for top honors and a shot at cash and prizes. The 40th Annual Seattle International Comedy Competition takes place throughout the month of November, with the preliminaries, semifinals and finals taking place at various venues in Seattle, Auburn, North Bend, Langley, Olympia, Kirkland and other locations. Kirkland Performance Center hosts the 2019 finals, so come prepared to laugh!

Justin Young 2019 Holiday Classics Tour

Join Top 20 Billboard Jazz Saxophonist Justin Young as he performs holiday classics from his nationally released Home for the Holidays album! VIP tickets get premium seating, with a reception at 6:30 p.m. including a meet and greet with an awesome gift bag. Justin Young sounds utterly natural when he plays, as if his extraordinary saxophone talent never needed formal training. But those mellifluous lines of soulful notes come through years of study, training and commitment to his love of music, as well as a constant desire to move forward.

Studio East presents ‘Twas the Night…

Now in its 19th season, Studio East presents the delightfully entertaining Eastside holiday tradition, ‘Twas the Night… Where chaos, craziness and cuteness reign. ‘Twas tells the famous poem through the eyes of, not only the humans involved, but the run-away mice, hungry cats, ‘hoofing’ reindeer and the big guy himself. ‘Twas is great for all ages and guarantees the whole family will exit the theater with big smiles on their faces and ready for the holidays. This show is recommended for ages five and over. All tickets $20.

This 21 and over event starts at 6 p.m. at The Heathman Hotel, located at 220 Kirkland Avenue. Early bird tickets are available allowing entry at 5 p.m. Grab some friends and embark on a wine-tasting adventure through downtown Kirkland exploring our amazing selection of galleries, boutiques and custom retail businesses. Meet winemakers and craft ale-makers from some of Washington’s finest wineries and breweries. This event takes the Small Business Saturday concept and adds beer and wine, so sip, stroll and shop around the northwest’s prettiest waterfront destination!

Lake Washington Half Marathon

Lake Washington Half Marathon

November 2 | 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. | Juanita Beach Park

The Lake Washington Half Marathon is a USA Track and Field-certified half marathon that stretches throughout picturesque Kirkland. This run showcases the very best of Kirkland’s gorgeous scenery, beginning and ending at Juanita Beach Park with incredible views of Lake Washington visible along the way. It also features the City’s Cross Kirkland Corridor, an easy-to-navigate pedestrian/bicycle pathway that extends through the middle of the City. Your reward for making it to the finish line is a beer garden set against the stunning backdrop of Juanita Beach Park!

A portion of the registration fee supports Cascade Challenge, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing outdoor adventures and leadership opportunities to teenagers. This event also supports Hopelink, inviting race participants to drop off five nonperishable food items at the Hopelink booth on race day.

Juanita Bay Park Interpretive Tours

November 3 and November 19 | Times Vary | Juanita Bay Park  

The Eastside Park Rangers in affiliation with the Eastside Audubon Society offer interpretive tours at Juanita Bay Park. Every season gives nature lovers a chance to spot something new and wonderful. Sunday, October 6, is the Juanita Bay Wildlife Tour, which begins at 1 p.m. and takes about one hour. Tuesday, October 15, is the Juanita Bay Park Bird Walk, which begins at 8 a.m. and welcomes adults and teens! Bring binoculars and meet in the parking lot.

Hopelink Turkey Trot 5K Family Fun Run and Walk

November 24 | Marina Park

Hopelink is excited to bring you its 19th annual Turkey Trot 5K Family Fun Run and Walk on Sunday, November 24! This festive Thanksgiving-themed event supports Hopelink’s efforts to serve homeless and low-income families, children, seniors and people with disabilities. The Turkey Trot includes a fair at Kirkland’s waterfront Marina Park, with balloon art, face painting, photos, giveaways and more. Walkers, runners, pets and kids in strollers are welcome!
