State Legislative Update: Intergovernmental Relations and Economic Development Manager Lorrie McKay will be providing the final update on how the City Council's priorities fared in the 2019 State Legislative session. The City Council's 2019 legislative agenda is available on the City website. The 2019 State Legislative session closed on Sunday, April 28.
Ordinance Related to Firearms and Weapons and Restricting the Discharge of Firearms Throughout Kirkland: The proposed ordinance would generally prohibit the discharge of firearms except for police officers in the exercise of their duties, the constitutional right of individuals to defend themselves and others, and the discharge of firearms at licensed shooting ranges. Rose Hill Neighborhood Amendments to Zoning Code and Zoning Map
The City Council will consider adopting zoning regulations to implement the Rose Hill neighborhood plan. The adopted Rose Hill Neighborhood Plan is available on the City website.

The Kirkland Fire Department has launched a pilot program to provide free lifesaving Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) to qualified organizations in Kirkland.
The AED Grant Program, which was originally initiated by the Kirkland City Council, is intended to place AEDs with organizations in the community that would have the greatest likelihood of providing members of the public with access to these lifesaving tools. Public access to AEDs bridges the gap from the time of collapse to the arrival of the Kirkland Fire Department’s resources.
“We know that having an AED onsite when a person experiences a cardiac event drastically increases their chances for survival,” said Chief Joe Sanford. “We are grateful that the City Council has provided the Fire Department with this opportunity to get more of these devices out in our community.”
Any business or non-profit organization can apply to receive an AED through the pilot program. The King County Metro Transit ORCA To-Go team will be at City Hall the first and third Wednesday of each month from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. to provide full-service ORCA card sales and assistance.The ORCA To-Go team sells the complete range of ORCA card products including: Adult, youth cards, senior, and disabled RRFP cards. Protecting the Environment During a Disaster & Every Day

The City invites the community to join Water Quality Program Coordinator Ryean-Marie Tuomisto, as she delves into the environmental side of a natural disaster and outlines ways the community can be better prepared to protect the environment in the case of an emergency.
Tuomisto is the Water Quality Program Coordinator for the City of Kirkland. She is passionate about protecting Kirkland’s wetlands, streams and lakes from pollution, and ensuring that the natural habitat remains safe for the community to enjoy. She graduated from the University of Idaho with a Master of Science in Geochemistry and has over 20 years of experience in the environmental compliance field.
