ERSJ Fundamentals: Planting Seeds of Belonging Beta
In King County’s ongoing commitment to Equity, Racial and Social Justice (ERSJ), we invite you to join us for our beta of ERSJ Fundamentals: Planting Seeds of Belonging. This is an interactive virtual workshop designed to deepen your understanding of how belonging, bridging, and othering shape our community. Through this beta session, we will explore the ways in which race and racism have contributed to disparities in King County and beyond while also examining the systems that continue these inequities.
During this beta workshop, we will also take time to summarize King County’s strong commitment to advancing ERSJ, with a specific focus on race. You will gain insights into the county’s strategies and goals and explore practical ways to blend these values into your daily interactions.
This workshop beta will be 3.5 hours in length, which includes intentional time for participants to provide feedback. Short breaks will be provided throughout the training session. Session feedback will be collected during the live workshop, and after via Microsoft Forms.
Please be aware that by becoming a beta tester, you are also being given access to workshops in development, draft curriculum, and are going to be part of active testing of new activities and in-workshop engagements. You are not participating in the final draft of the workshops, and we anticipate glitches and hiccups during the workshops.
By the end of this beta workshop, our hope is that you will be able to:
• Explore Concepts of belonging and othering
• Examine King County disparities related to race and racism
• Summarize King County’s commitment to equity and social justice and focus on race
• Identify ways you can advance equity in your everyday interactions
Please join us on December 12th, 2024 from 1:00pm – 4:30pm for our Equity, Racial and Social Justice Fundamentals Series – Planting Seeds of Belonging (BETA). Enroll here

Staying Grounded
A grounded leader remains intellectually focused, balanced, stable and stays directly connected to themselves, the organization and people on teams. All of these make it easier for leaders to stay centered yet agile, with high regard for others – navigating with composure and empathy. Being grounded is supported by harnessing self-awareness, humility and courage, for a role that is meaningfully rewarding.
In this article Are You a Grounded Leader? you can review several components: Self-awareness – being present in every moment, understanding your values and principles; Leverage your intuition – listen to your gut to recognize, nurture and use instincts along with other tools; Inspire with your message – start with self-awareness to communicate with clarity and focus to ignite inspiration; Live in service – providing guidance and understanding your influence; Be a coach – observe, listen and co-create optimum outcomes by resisting commanding; Create deep connections – build relationships that matter; Claim the big picture – think strategically at a high level to connect the dots. All of these contribute to being emotionally and cognitively balanced.
On a more tactical level, this NEOGOV eLearning reviews The Responsibilities of a Manager that includes the ability to solve problems effectively through communication, writing skills, financial knowledge, change management and willingness to learn.
Grounded leaders provide stability by inspiring confidence and trust, empowering people – and themselves – to reach their full potential. By cultivating a sense of calm and purpose, grounded leaders create a positive ripple effect.
Be sure to explore NEOGOV eLearning courses and visit the Leading the Way website to enroll in leadership development courses. Our live facilitated workshops are certified for SHRM Professional Development Credits (PDCs) and are a unique opportunity to meet peers from across King County to network and grow your leader skills.
