Are you a leader looking to continue to grow your leadership skills with practical tools that are aligned to our King County True North & Values? Have you already taken Equity & Leadership and are looking for more ways to deepen your learning?
Leader Learning Labs are facilitated forums for County leaders to practice skills and dive deeper into Leadership Development and Equity, Racial & Social Justice topics with their peers. Each session will cover a different leader skill, while highlighting two County Values.

Building Gender Inclusive Spaces
In this three-hour workshop, participants will learn about the long history of gender diverse peoples across the globe, foundational knowledge of gender and sexuality, and best practices to support a gender diverse workforce.
Participants will have the opportunity to move through real-life scenarios, apply their understanding of pronoun use, and develop strategies to advance gender equity at King County.

Join us in this engaging workshop where we will explore the complex nature of socialization and its impact on our views, beliefs, and behaviors and gain deep understanding of how systemic biases are embedded in our society. We will explore strategies for building inclusive communities where all individuals, regardless of their background, can thrive. Together, we aim to empower participants to take meaningful actions that drive social change and promote justice in their own spheres of influence.

Inclusion brings out the best in us, for all of us
Supervisors, managers, and leaders are responsible for creating an inclusive and affirming environment. This means listening to needs and concerns to promote a healthy organizational culture of respect and well-being. According to a recent study by the Boston Consulting Group, 75% of LGBTQ+ employees have experienced daily negative workplace interactions related to their LGBTQ+ identity.

Education and awareness of LGBTQ+ identities, issues, and terminology to better understand the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ employees. Enroll in Building Gender Inclusive Spaces for Managers & Supervisors!

Respect and validation of employees' chosen names, pronouns, and gender identities, and ensure that all workplace policies and practices are inclusive of LGBTQ+ individuals.

Advocacy and allyship of LGBTQ+ rights and equity within the workplace and speak out against discrimination and harassment.

Confidentiality and privacy around LGBTQ+ identities, unless given explicit permission to share information.

Access to supportive resources, such as Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Making Life Easier (MLE), information about LGBTQ+ affinity group or by contacting the department’s Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Manager.
Overall, supervisors play a critical role in creating a safe and supportive workplace environment where LGBTQ+ employees feel valued, respected, and able to thrive. Creating Effective Application Materials (eLearning)
This self-paced eLearning will provide tips and strategies on how to make application materials stand out. Learn the purpose of the job application, resume, cover letter and supplemental questions, and how to make each of them more effective. We’ll go over what to include in your resume and the best format to showcase your qualifications, how to write a tailored cover letter, and how to showcase your accomplishments and transferable skills. This self-paced eLearning will provide you with strategies and tips to help you do your best during the interview. You will learn how to prepare for a virtual or in-person interview, the interview structure and types of questions you will be asked. The Capital Training Program’s first course is now accessible via NEOGOV! The Sustainable Infrastructure Scorecard course introduces the 2023 edition of the King County Sustainable Infrastructure Scorecard, which provides guidelines for integrating sustainable development practices into infrastructure projects and complying with the Green Building Sustainable Development Ordinance 19402. This introductory-level course is suitable for all staff. Courses that dive deeper into the equity and sustainability chapters are in development.
