Finding Support in Times of Loss
As we mourn the loss of our coworker and friend Lili Stansberry, we want to center on services that may be of help to those who are grieving. King County offers comprehensive programs and services that help our employees, and their families, to be healthy and safe. In addition to providing career support, Lili co-led the King County Disability Equity Network (KCDEN) and led the creation and management of the Administrative Professionals Development and Recognition Program. If you would like to learn more about her legacy at King County, you can read the full article on Lili and her impact at the County in the DHR Newsletter.
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides support for workplace stress among other matters and the Making Life Easier Program (MLE) provides personal counseling. These services are free to King County employees.
EAP can be contacted to make an appointment at 206-263-8733, or for more information email HRDEAP@kingcounty.gov. Meet the EAP Counselors.
For MLE services you can access the program here with user name: King County or call 1-888-874-7290.

Hybrid Work
A hybrid workforce is a reality across the county. There are unique benefits and challenges for leading employees on teams where some are onsite, some are remote, or employees are remote some of the time. Benefits include flexibility to manage what works best for each employee (if that is an option on the team), reduced strain/increased well-being when considering commutes and specific life circumstances, increased accessibility for some employees (neurodivergent, disabled, etc.), when remote work is an option.
When some team members are closer to the customer and direct services, it can ensure that goals are met and information is shared across the team. Read more in this article and Reimagining Leadership in a Hybrid World from the Center for Creative Leadership. But without care, hybrid teams can derail inclusion, team dynamics, and a healthy culture.
Research by Gallup offers great tips. Some include - involving people in setting up guidelines together, where available; focusing on trust as a two-way street, prioritize communications; set clear accountability; be intentional and proactive in fostering belonging and relationships needed for a thriving culture and performance.
