Learning & Development Workshop Pilot Testers Wanted!
Last year, the Learning & Development team invited you to join our pool of course pilot testers. Our testers assist us to ensure our instructor led workshops and eLearnings are the very best they can be and actively contribute to our goal of making King County a welcoming community where every person can thrive.
As a pilot tester you will be given access to workshops and eLearnings in development, including draft curriculum, as well as their activities and engagements, and will be asked to:
- Attend and participate in pilot workshops in their entirety and to their full extent
- Provide feedback on workshop curriculum, design, learning goals, activities, and in-workshop engagements from your own lens and speaking from your own experience
Participating in the pilot process is a great professional development opportunity that will provide you with the chance to have a positive impact on the county's workforce by collaborating with the L&D Team to provide your thoughts, ideas, and experiences applicable to each topic area. In addition, all pilot program participants will receive credit for the pilot courses they attend in their NEOGOV Course Transcript, including time allocated to providing feedback.
If you are interested in participating, please and fill out this MS Teams Form. After submitting the interest form, you will be added to the list of folks the L&D Team will reach out to with individual pilot opportunities. By filling out the interest form, you are not committing to participation in all pilot opportunities! We send out notification requests and you are free to accept or decline as it fits your schedule. If you are already on our list and would like to retire or take a break this year, please reach out to us at kctraining@kingcounty.gov.

Leadership
Leadership can be grown and honed. That means anyone can increase skills by working at it. Effective leaders have positive impacts on team members they manage, and also the entire county. Employees who work under great leaders tend to be happier, more productive and more connected to their organization.
Do you want to be a line lead, crew chief, supervisor, or manager? Or maybe you’ve been a people leader for a while. Everyone can learn, so check out Leading with “Soft-Skills” for Success at Every Level from the Center for Creative Leadership. In The Role of a Supervisor, a 15 minute on-demand eLearning in NEOGOV, take time for self reflection, to see common experiences of a supervisor and explore a scenario.
When you know what inspires you about being a leader, it is easier to work at it long-term. Improving can be serious work – but you can also make it interesting and fun. For example:
-
Find a leadership quote you like, then take one action each day for a week that demonstrates that quote. Repeat this for one month.
-
Become a mentor. Get started with this fulfilling and exciting opportunity through the county’s mentorship program. Register here.
-
Start a leadership book club.
-
Look for leaders in movies or tv shows, then make note of the skills you admire or those that you already have (Ted Lasso, anyone?).
The fact is that leader skills can be developed, no matter what your role at the county. Enroll today in Leading the Way’s FREE workshops!
Leader Mindset next class, Thursday, February 29, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
