Second Professional Development Scholarship Award Letters and Round Up
All award letters for the second period of the 2023 Coalition Labor Agreement’s Professional Development Scholarship Program have been sent to the scholarship recipients. This second period saw 41 employees receive over $100,000 in scholarship funds.
In total, the 2023 scholarship awarded over $180,000 to employees. The 2024 scholarship year will award $270,000, will open September 6, 2023, and will be for trainings that start anytime in 2024. Employees interested in applying for the 2024 scholarship are encouraged to begin exploring training opportunities and to reach out to their HR staff, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Manager, or Career Support Services for support.
The scholarship is part of the County’s commitment to Investing in YOU and is designed to assist employees represented by a union in the Coalition of Unions with their professional development by providing up to $3,000 in financial assistance towards obtaining training, certificates, degrees, licenses, and certifications.

ERSJ Fundamentals
Equity, Racial, and Social Justice Fundamentals is the first in a series of trainings designed to support King County employees in learning about equity and social justice and in particular racial justice at King County. Using videos, small group conversations and sharing of information and resources, participants will be able to:
- Explain the concepts of equity and inequity
- Examine King County disparities related to race and racism
- Summarize King County’s commitment to equity and social justices
- Identify ways you can advance equity in your everyday interactions

In this three-hour workshop, participants will learn about the long history of gender diverse peoples across the globe, foundational knowledge of gender and sexuality, and best practices to support a gender diverse workforce.
Participants will have the opportunity to move through real-life scenarios, apply their understanding of pronoun use, and develop strategies to advance gender equity at King County.
