Welcome to 2023! This past year your Learning & Development team worked hard to continue building out our portfolio of educational opportunities to serve the different needs, interests, and goals of our King County workforce. This year we’ve got some exciting things in the pipeline! For the first time we are starting the year off with a fully-staffed team, making it possible to grow in our ability to provide new, more frequent, and even better learning opportunities. Check out our current list of offerings in NEOGOV to sign up for a workshop!
Several team members received training on building eLearning courses so that in addition to our virtual instructor-led workshops, you will be able to access custom learning on your own schedule via NEOGOV. NEOGOV also feature hundreds of built-in courses you can take at your own pace. We are also continuing our partnership with Seattle College – and new this year, we have established a relationship with CityU! Along with the 15% discount on classes they have offered King County employees in the past, we will be featuring courses through CityU that are aligned with many different skills that are in demand for our workforce. We will continue to post featured college courses here throughout the year: King County Training Opportunities. A similar partnership with the University of Washington (UW) is in the works, so stay tuned for more on that!
Finally, we have continued to update and grow this newsletter, the Learning Compass, extending our reach to feature more offerings across King County and recently adding a QR code to provide easier access to employees using a smartphone rather than a computer.
Featured below, you’ll see some of the data behind our successes this past year. King County employees are consistently striving to learn and grow – and it shows! We appreciate all of you and love being part of your personal and professional development journey.
We are one team! Please reach out to us any time with questions, feedback, or any suggestions. You can contact us at kctraining@kingcounty.gov.

Your Career Support Services (CSS) team was hard at work this past year helping King County employees prepare to reach their career goals. For our core curriculum, we conducted 32 workshops for 463 employees, with a 100% satisfaction rate amongst surveyed attendees. We also introduced and presented eight of our Professional Development Scholarship Employee Briefings in preparation for the first application window.
We provided over 250 individualized career coaching sessions across King County. We also provided orientation to our services to Public Health, Metro, KCIT, Roads, Executive’s Job and Housing Program, and other departments to meet their specific needs and expand our outreach to other employee groups.
We assisted the Administrative Professional Program with the recognition of 83 outstanding administrative professionals and helped host monthly Networking and Casual Conversations events. We also held the first virtual National Administrative Professionals Recognition Day event in April, which was a great success. The program rounded out the year with the publishing of its very own cookbook made for, and by, administrative professionals!
As we move into 2023, several changes are coming our way. Namely, we will be moving our Creating Effective Application Materials and Strategic Interviewing Techniques workshop primarily to a recorded video format instead of through Zoom. This means they will be accessible 24/7 at your convenience, and we will be happy to answer any questions through our email at careersupportservices@kingcounty.gov.
