King County International Airport’s second annual “FOD Walk” drew about 120 participants who came to look for Foreign Object Debris (FOD) on the runway and share a unique experience on a closed airport runway.
They found very little debris, a testament to the ongoing work of airport employees, tenants, and customers in keeping the airfield clean and safe, according to event organizer and Airport Duty Manager Sam Priest.
Despite the lack of trash, the experience itself was interesting, participants said. Read more.

Upcoming Mindfulness Classes
Balanced You partners with Mindfulness Northwest to offer free mindfulness classes and workshops to King County employees. Mindfulness is a practice that can help you quiet your mind, find focus, and reduce some of the stress many of us experience. This summer, we have classes available for all employees that will teach techniques such as mindful movement, mindful relationships, and more. All classes are held live on Zoom.
Mindful Movement: An hour of gentle, guided movement appropriate for all bodies.
Mindful Self-Compassion: Learn how to befriend yourself, especially when things are tough.
Meeting Anxiety with Mindfulness: With a warm, supportive teacher, we'll try some simple practices that help reduce stress, depression, and anxiety.

CHOMP! returning to Marymoor Aug. 20
CHOMP! King County’s free celebration of local food and sustainable living celebrates all that is fresh, delicious, local, and sustainable in King County.
Taking place at the picturesque Willowmoor Farm at King County’s Marymoor Park, the event supports King County Executive Dow Constantine’s Local Food Initiative by highlighting local farms and farmers, chefs and restaurants using locally-sourced food, and local organizations specializing in healthy and affordable foods, farmer and farmland support, sustainability, and social justice.

Training Spotlight
Communication and Problem Solving Skills – Online – Join instructor Lenny Borer for this two-day training. He will address communication and problem-solving skills with the public and with co-workers. This class covers skills for effective listening, speaking, handling conflicts, and managing defensive behavior.
- This class takes place on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 10 and 11, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, both days with a fee of $65. Attendance at both days is required for completion of the class. Register here.
Equity and Leadership – Online – Created in partnership with the Office of Equity and Social Justice, Equity and Leadership is designed to support participants’ ability to recognize the role that race and racism have on disparities in our workforce and to understand the responsibility for people leaders to create racially equitable work environments for their teams. Sessions are free and are offered monthly.
