Starting March 17, eligibility for COVID-19 vaccine will expand to include residents eligible under Phase 1B2, including critical workers in certain industries and people 16+ who are pregnant or have a disability that puts them at high risk. Click here for details


2021 Engagement Survey

Have your say in the 2021 Employee Survey

More than two in five eligible employees have already completed the 2021 Employee Engagement Survey and let County leaders know about their experiences at King County.

As of Tuesday morning, March 16, more than 41% of participating employees have completed the survey. You can see a complete breakdown of participation rates here.

If you haven’t completed the survey, look in your King County inbox for an email from KC Employee Survey (kcemployeesurvey@us.confirmit.com) with the subject line “Welcome to the King County 2021 Employee Survey.”

Metro stands with the Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) community

For more than a year, members of the Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) community locally, nationally, and globally have been the victims of misplaced blame, harassment, and violent targeting in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Metro acknowledges the grievous harm that has been done, and is still taking place, and commits ourselves to working with our employees and our community to make Metro, King County, and our region a safe place for everyone. Metro unequivocally supports our APIA community and denounces anti-Asian racism in the strongest terms. We cannot allow xenophobia and racism to ever be tolerated. Read more.

As the External Affairs Manager for the Office of Emergency Management, Barnaby Dow and his team have been working overtime during the pandemic. But then Barnaby tested positive for COVID. Fortunately, his recovery and a plasma study at the UW gave him a chance to help others.

FLASH sex education developed by King County is clinically proven to reduce teen pregnancy in national study

New published research demonstrates what King County families and public health experts have long observed – that the FLASH sexual health curriculum plays a key role in preventing unintended pregnancy among teens. The research also shows FLASH is well-liked by students.

The results published in the February Journal of Adolescent Health reflect a five-year research project that was part of the federal Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) program.

In this third in the Understanding Ableism series, we will be discussing the intersection of disability and racism with ChrisTiana ObeySumner. 

We will be discussing the social and intersectional models of disability justice and how people can be allies and accomplices in solidarity. You can find more information on Epiphanies of Equity website.

Coffee Connections Tomorrow: TV & Movies

As part of the Hope and Joy Campaign, the Balanced You team is hosting a series of informal, virtual Zoom sessions, called “Coffee Connections”, to provide spaces for employees to connect over fun topics and events.

During quarantine, many of us had time to catch up on favorite shows and movies or binge watch new ones. Join us tomorrow from 10-10:30 am to connect with other King County employees and share your favorite quarantine movies or tv shows!  


Career Support Services

  • STAR-LA Interview Practice and Feedback This one-hour VIRTUAL, small group workshop is designed to provide mock interview practice and feedback using the STAR-LA method as taught by King County Career Support Services. This workshop is ideal for participants who have attended the Strategic Interviewing Tips and Techniques workshop or have watched the 10 minute STAR-LA method video found on the Career Support Services website. This workshop will take place:
    • Wednesday, March 24 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. 
    • Monday, March 29 from 1-2 p.m.

  • Creating Effective Application Materials – This two-hour virtual workshop will provide you tips and strategies on how to make your application materials stand out.  Learning objectives include: 
    • Understanding the purpose of the job application, resume, cover letter and supplemental questions and how to make each of them more effective 
    • Deciding what to include in your resume and the best format to showcase your qualifications 
    • How to write a cover letter tailored to the specific position 
    • Identifying and showcasing your accomplishments 
    • Thursday, March 25 from 1-3 p.m.

Training Spotlight

  • Intro to Mindfulness – Online – In this one-hour workshop, we will review the various aspects of mindfulness practice, the ways mindfulness can help reduce stress, reactivity and burnout, and the science that supports the practices. The workshop includes hands-on learning of several simple but effective mindfulness practices that participants can put to use in their lives right away. This class is free:
  • Mentorship Lunch & Learn – Online – Would you like to have a mentor, someone who can help you grow professionally? Do you want to strengthen your coaching skills? As a Mentee, you will have a trusted advisor who can help you navigate complex situations, and as a Mentor, you can uncover new or forgotten skills and build influence. This Lunch and Learn is free:

Tech Tip: Turning ‘Focused’ inbox off (or on) in Microsoft Outlook 

The “Focused” inbox in Microsoft Outlook separates your inbox into two tabs—Focused and Other. That keeps important email messages in the Focused tab while the rest remain easily accessible—but out of the way—on the “Other” tab. But not everyone wants to organize their inbox this way. 

It’s simple to change back to a more typical inbox: 

  • Select the View tab. 
  • Select Show Focused Inbox

The Focused and Other tabs will disappear from the top of your mailbox.
