Taking a second look at old sentences puts King County in the national spotlight
Fair and Just Prosecution recently invited King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg and Deputy Chief of Staff Carla Lee to New Haven, CT, to speak to 25 newly-elected (and some veteran) district attorneys, academics and a Yale law students about the important role prosecuting attorneys can play in reviewing long sentences imposed in prior decades.
The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (PAO) is doing this through ‘second look’ case work. “A prosecutor’s obligation to do justice extends backwards as well as forward,” said Dan Satterberg. Read more.

Foreclosure prevention team helps homeowners and reduces property tax foreclosures
King County has reduced the number of properties going to the annual tax foreclosure auction by one third compared with 2018, continuing a trend of reducing foreclosures.
In 2019, 1,910 parcels were subject to foreclosure, with just 60 ending up in the annual tax foreclosure auction. In 2018, 2,310 parcels were subject to foreclosure, and 99 parcels went to the foreclosure auction. Read more.

Metro takes action to address racial disparities and the climate crisis with bold direction from community
Earlier this summer, we asked for your feedback on how Metro can better address the needs of our growing county in a way that is equitable and addresses the climate crisis. King County Metro has been working with the Equity Cabinet, a diverse group of community leaders from across the county, to develop the Mobility Framework. Read more.

Local high school students boost cancer-preventing vaccinations for HPV
High school students from across King County are carrying a powerful health message to their peers. They are talking about human papillomavirus (HPV), the cancers it can cause, and why it is so important for teens to get vaccinated against HPV. The HPV Vaccine Champion Summit, recently hosted by Public Health – Seattle & King County, convened nearly 50 students from 10 high schools to be trained as peer educators. Read more.

Training Spotlight: SharePoint 101
SharePoint 101, multiple dates: Basic user training explains SharePoint and how it’s used at King County and best practices. All students login, navigate and get hands on experience adding, editing, removing, restoring and sharing documents with classmates. Lists are also covered in the training and users become familiar with adding content to a list and working with Metadata. Post training support is offered by the instructor and students are provided links to class documentation (handouts) and FAQs. Register and learn more.
