Some residents near the project area requested to reduce water use
As early as Monday, October 26, crews will repair the sewer pipe and maintenance holes on Pike Street Northeast between 8th Street Northeast and 14th Street Northeast in Auburn. We expect to finish these activities by the morning of Thursday, November 5. The schedule may be subject to change.
We will reline the pipe with a material that can cure in place inside the pipe. Relining the pipe saves money and limits disruptions. This work requires crews to work continuously around the clock. A temporary diversion pipe will keep sewer service running while we do these repairs.
Residents in the following areas are asked to reduce their water use on the dates and times below:
-
5 am Monday, October 26, to 5 am Tuesday, October 27: Pike Street Northeast between 8th Street Northeast and ReNew Lea Hill
-
5 am Wednesday, October 28, to 5 am on Thursday, October 29: Pike Street Northeast between ReNew Lea Hill and Pike Place Northeast.
-
5 am on Friday, October 30, to 5 am on Saturday, October 31: Pike Street Northeast between Pike Place Northeast and 12th Street Northeast
-
5 am on Monday, November 2, to 5 am on Tuesday, November 3: Pike Street Northeast between 12th Street Northeast and 14th Street Northeast
-
5 am on Wednesday, November 4, to 5 am on Thursday, November 5: 14th Street Northeast between M Street Northeast and O Street Northeast
Limiting water use in these areas will help the sewer lining to harden. You can use toilets and sinks normally. However please avoid:
- Doing laundry
- Running your dishwasher
- Other high-water-use tasks
Flaggers will guide vehicles and help traffic move in both directions near the work zone.
See the map below for more details.
- Crews will work around the clock from 5 am on October 26 to 5 am on November 5.
- You will be able to use your sinks, toilets, and showers normally.
- Crews will maintain driveway access.
- Expect noise from trucks, generators, compressors, forklifts, vacuum trucks, and other construction equipment. To minimize nighttime noise, we will only run equipment when necessary.
- Crews will use lights to safely illuminate the work area at night.
- Expect traffic detours, and lane and sidewalk closures.
- Restricted street parking along the temporary sewer diversion pipe and repair work areas.
Stay safe! Please watch for equipment in the area. Travel slowly. Follow signs and directions from flaggers in the work zone.
The King County Wastewater Treatment Division is repairing about 2.6 miles of old concrete sewer pipe, with pipe sizes ranging from 18 to 36 inches wide, in Auburn. We are also repairing 45 maintenance holes and over 100 side sewer connections to homes and businesses. Repairing the M Street Trunk will keep the sewer pipe working for another 50 years and protect water quality and public health.
During the first phase of the project, we repaired 0.7 miles of pipe in 2025. In June 2026, crews began the second phase of the M Street Trunk Rehabilitation Project. Crews are repairing about 1.9 miles of sewer pipe serving the city of Auburn during this phase. Work is taking place between the intersection of 2nd Street Northeast and Pike Street Northeast and 23rd Street Northeast, near the Auburn Municipal Airport (Zones 30 and 36).
We will keep community members informed of project progress and be available to answer questions and address concerns throughout construction. Contact us at 206-263-9878 or email MStTrunkrepair@kingcounty.gov
We will provide additional translations or an interpreter at no cost.
