Why transit matters — and why a Week Without Driving is the perfect time to try it
Week Without Driving has begun, and it’s a great way to sample how transit can simplify your life and learn more about how essential it is to our community.
A third of people in the U.S. are nondrivers, due to age, disability or the high cost of keeping a car on the road. Yet many communities operate under the assumption that everyone drives. Week Without Driving challenges that view by lifting up real stories from people who rely on walking, biking, rolling and transit to get where they need to go.
At Metro, we’re here for you around the clock, making this week the perfect moment to give transit a try, says Metro General Manager Michelle Allison. Metro’s latest service change in August increased evening and overnight bus service to keep our riders moving.

Share your voice on proposed transit changes in Renton
This blog post is also available in: አማርኛ (Amharic) 简体中文 (Simplified Chinese) 繁體中文 (Traditional Chinese) 한국어 (Korean) Русский (Russian) Español (Spanish) Українська (Ukrainian) Tiếng Việt (Vietnamese)
As downtown Renton grows and evolves, King County Metro is seeking public feedback on proposed changes to a dozen bus routes and their bus stops in the Renton area. The Renton Area Mobility Project supports the City of Renton’s ongoing changes to its downtown and will focus on connecting Metro service to the future Renton Transit Center, located near the South Renton Park-and-Ride. Opening in 2028, the new transit center will connect Metro bus routes and Metro Flex services with the future RapidRide I Line and Sound Transit’s Stride S1 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line, creating a regional transit hub with connections between Burien, Renton, Bellevue and beyond.
Take our survey by November 30 to tell us what you think about the proposed service changes. Metro will use public input to help shape decisions about the proposed network that we will share with the community in mid-2027, when we’ll ask for one more round of input.
For a project overview and more information check out the Metro Matters blog.
