King County Behavioral Health Advisory Board
The King County Behavioral Health Advisory Board (BHAB) is a volunteer board that advises the King County Executive and County Council on matters concerning mental health and substance use conditions. This includes equitable access to behavioral health education, prevention, treatment, crisis response, and regional service delivery.
The BHAB is recruiting new members who reflect the geographical and demographic mix of King County communities. You are highly encouraged to apply if you have lived or living experience of mental health and/or substance use conditions, have lived experience of receiving or providing crisis services, or belong to a community that has experienced trauma, poverty, racism, or discrimination.
The BHAB also serves as the advisory body for the King County Crisis Care Center Levy.

Tuesday, August 18: Council
At Tuesday’s meeting, CM Dembowski spoke to proposed changes to transit service at the north end of Lake Washington including the deletion of Route 372 - a transit line between Bothell and the UW campus.
Metro Transit is making service changes in the system effective August 29. These include additional service hours on routes 72, 75 and 77. For more information, click here.
The Council also discussed a long-range planning committee for Harborview Medical Center and approved several leases and agreements to support the Department of Public Health. You can see the 8/18 meeting and all recent county meetings here on King County Television.
The Council also recognized former Seattle City Councilwoman Dolores Sibonga – now 94 years old – for her lifelong work on civil rights, workers rights and economic development. Dolores Sibonga was the first Filipino American attorney in Washington State in 1973, the first female executive of the Washington State Human Rights Commission in 1975 and the first woman of color to serve on the Seattle City Council in 1978.

Coming up: Next week’s Committee of the Whole meeting (COW) on 8/25 will include a presentation by Executive staff on plans for the King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA). Kick off the 2026 Husky football season at Fan Fest on August 22 at Husky Stadium! Starting at 4:30 p.m., fans can enjoy food, games, giveaways, face painting, performances, and opportunities to meet Husky athletes, followed by a free football mock game at 6:30 p.m. Fan Fest tickets are $5 and include admission to the mock game.

Tuesday, August 25: King County Home Improvement Fair (Skyway)
 Do you have a home improvement project and need help getting started? King County’s Department of Local Services is offering two free events to assist with your needs! Home improvements can include house remodels, new accessory dwelling units, deck construction, and more! Meet with home construction vendors and King County Permitting staff and learn more about the process to improve your home. Thursday, August 27: Music in the Park (Madison Park!)
  Friends of Madison Park says “bring your picnic blanket, your family and friends, and your dancing shoes and settle in beginning at 6:30pm for family-friendly musical styles under the summer skies at the park”.
This Thursday will feature The Locals with the Daddz Band – a fun lovin’ rock band known for playing dances at their kid’s school – McGilvra Elementary!

Today – Back-to-School Vaccinations
Save your money with no-cost vaccines
Public Health Seattle-King informs us that here in Washington State, all kids ages 0-18 can get vaccines at no cost, whether you have insurance or not. You might be charged an administration fee by the vaccine provider, but you don’t have to pay if you can’t afford it. If you’re getting other services at the same time, like a sports physical or well-child check, you might be charged an office visit fee. But you’ll never be charged for the cost of the vaccine.
Don’t have a healthcare provider? Not to worry. Use this map to find one. And if you need help enrolling in health insurance or finding a doctor, the Community Health Access Program’s got you covered. Call 800-756-5437 or email chap@kingcounty.gov.
Saturday, September 12: Best Starts Family Engagement Resource Fair
The Positive Family Connections (PFC) Family Network will be hosting their second annual Family Engagement Resource Fair on September 12! They are seeking up to 50 organizations to participate as a vendor to share resources and support for families across King County. For more information click here.
Thursday, September 17: Veteran Outreach Funding Available
King County is accepting applications for $9.1 million in funding to support organizations providing outreach, resources, and services to veterans, military servicemembers, and their families.
Applications are due September 17, 2026, by 2:00 p.m. Funding will support programs serving veterans across King County, with a focus on communities that may face additional barriers to services.
