Thank you for your interest in the King County Comprehensive Plan. On August 20, 2026, the Local Services and Land Use Committee chair submitted for introduction to the King County Council the proposed 2026 annual King County Comprehensive Plan update. The proposed Comprehensive Plan update is Proposed Ordinance 2026-0235.
The annual update would align the County's Comprehensive Plan and development code with separately-proposed changes to the Countywide Planning Policies, allowing and setting standards for technical amendments to the Urban Growth Area (UGA) boundary. It would also approve one technical map amendment affecting two portions of unopened, undesignated King County right-of-way, totaling approximately 1.64 acres.
Council Review Process
The legislation is being referred to the Local Services and Land Use Committee for review over the next several months for potential amendment and recommendation. Final adoption by the full Council is anticipated in December 2026. Information on how to participate in Committee meetings is available on the Committee website.

This website will be periodically updated as new information and materials become available. News, schedule updates, public comment opportunities, meeting materials, and public notices related to the 2026 annual Comprehensive Plan update will also be distributed to this email list throughout the process.
Public Comment
The schedule for the Council’s review of the 2026 annual Comprehensive Plan update includes many opportunities for public comment, through Zoom, in person, and email. The committee will hold a regular meeting on Wednesday, September 16 at 9:30 a.m., to receive a Council staff briefing on the proposed 2026 annual update.
