I want to personally invite you to join me for the Fairwood 60th Anniversary 5K Fun Run on August 29th, followed by a full day of fun at Petrovitsky Park.

Here’s the full schedule:

• 9:30 a.m. – Community Fun Run: Celebrate Fairwood’s 60th with a Fun Run & Walk. It’s open to all fitness levels and ages! Donations will benefit the Kentridge Cross Country Team. • 10:00 a.m. – Family-friendly activities, including inflatables, vendors, and food trucks.
• 12:00 p.m. – Welcoming Remarks and Live Music begin. Make sure to be there for the official opening of the celebration.
• 8:30 p.m. – Big Backyard Movie screening of Zootopia 2 under the stars.

Don't Forget about the Ravensdale Movie Night!

Don’t forget -- It’s almost time for our annual Big Backyard Movie at Ravensdale Park! Gather your family and friends, grab some low-backed chairs and blankets, and get ready to enjoy a movie under the stars. Bring a picnic or enjoy offerings from a local food truck! This year, we will be hosting a screening of Pixar's Hoppers. The start time is 8:30 p.m., but feel free to come snag a seat starting at 7 p.m. I'm proud to have fought to ensure Big Backyard Movie Nights were hosted not just in King County's cities, but also in our unincorporated communities. I can't wait to see you there!

The first draft of the Subarea Plan is open for public comment!

The Department of Local Services has released the first draft of the Fairwood Subarea Plan, and comments are now open to the public. Called the Preliminary Plan, this first draft includes zoning concepts that are available for public review and comment. Please visit the project website to view the reader’s guide, link to the preliminary plan, and use our online form to enter your comments. Public comments will be accepted through September 26, 2026.

I also want to invite you to attend the Department of Local Services’ upcoming events to learn more about the Fairwood Subarea Plan and ask questions: 

• August 12 & September 9, 2026, 4-8 p.m. – Fairwood Market Night. Stop by our booth.
• September 16, 2026, 4-6 p.m. – Library Office Hours. Visit our table “office hours” at the Fairwood Library.
• September 17, 2026, 6 p.m. – Virtual Public Information Meeting. Attend our online meeting. Register for the meeting at this LINK.
• September 23, 2026, 4-6 p.m. – Virtual Office Hours. Drop-in online on Zoom at this LINK.
