Conservation Futures Advisory Committee At-Large Member – Vacancy
The Conservation Futures Advisory Committee helps direct funds from the King County Conservation Futures levy to purchase or preserve open space lands, including natural areas, passive-use parks, urban greenspaces, wildlife habitat, trails, farms and, forests throughout the county.
The CFT program also provides a funding opportunity for open spaces in historically underserved areas where residents experience low incomes, poor health outcomes and a lack of open space.

Tuesday, July 21: Work Session
CM Lewis chaired the council’s noon work session. The Councilmembers discussed improving partnerships with the congressional delegation to ensure federal funding for local infrastructure and services. Discussion was led by Jeff Bjornstad, President of Federal Affairs and Strategic Communications for W2A.
The Council also was briefed on amendments to the Youth Diversion Implementation Report and specifically ways to ensure accountability.

CM Lewis and the Council voted to accept the Youth Diversion and Intervention Program Report adding amendments proposed by CM Balducci, CM Dembowski and CM Baron to ensure performance measurements. The Youth Diversion and Intervention Program is responsible for assisting families with kids in the juvenile justice system.

Wednesday, July 22: Budget and Fiscal Management Committee
Click on the image above to hear CM Lewis ask about the proposed increase in solid waste rate. She asks how much of the increase is due to regulatory requirements (which protect our environment).
The Budget and Fiscal Management Committee received a briefing on Harbor Island Studios – a film studio which has been using King County owned-property on Harbor Island. The Council was presented with options including surplussing the property and keeping the property which requires considerable environmental remediation.
The Committee also considered a proposal to increase the Solid Waste rate for garbage and recycling. CM Lewis asked about regulatory requirements as a driver of cost increases.
The BFM committee also reviewed and approved the Capital Improvement Projects budget for Harborview Hospital.
Finally, the BFM committee considered a property lease for Medic One in Auburn, a property sale in Federal Way.

Thursday, July 23: Health, Housing and Human Services Committee
The Health, Housing and Human Services Committee was briefed on the Mental Illness and Drug Dependency (MIDD) implementation plan.
In 2025, the Council voted to continue MIDD funding with a commitment to develop a new plan for assisting people with mental and behavioral health challenges.
CM Lewis has served on the MIDD Implementation Planning Committee this year and spoke to the plan at the meeting.
The committee was also advised that MIDD will now be called BRIDGE – with the goal of focusing on assisting people regain their health rather than on their disease.

Juan Cotto answers questions by the Government Accountability and Oversight (GAO) committee on July 20 regarding his appointment to the Public Facilities District.
Coming Up: The Council meeting on July 28 will include the nomination of D2 resident Juan Cotto to serve on the Washington State Major League Baseball Stadium Public Facilities District Board of Directors.
