Last week, CREATE48 and King County announced they are stepping up to keep Habor Island Studios, a unique regional asset, alive for another year while we continue to work toward long term sustainability and success for local film production right here in the heart of King County.
Film is such a rich medium, building community through sharing stories and our common humanity. This marks a critical step to preserve Harbor Island Studios as a vital part of our local film industry. I am grateful to CREATE48 and the KC Executive team for their work to make this partnership happen.

Nominations are now open for the 2026 East King County Human Services Awards and The Collective invites you to help recognize the individuals and organizations making a difference in our community. Nominations are open through August 11 for individuals, nonprofits, businesses, faith organizations, volunteers, and community partners who are working to strengthen the Eastside. Share who you think should be recognized for their work in human services!

I was honored to join my colleague Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer to present Rick Rizzs a recognition from the King County Council upon his retirement for his years as the voice of the Seattle Mariners. His radio broadcasts have brought joy to Mariners fans for over 40 years, sharing his enthusiasm and love of baseball to people across the region.
Rick also has a long history of community service, including co-founding Toys for Kids to provide Christmas gifts for underprivileged children, starting Rizzsmas in July by inviting underserved kids to a Mariner’s game, and creating Rick’s Locker to supply sports equipment so all youth can play the games they love. We wish him a joyful and fulfilling retirement!
