King County has now issued a Determination of Significance (DS) for the proposal. This means that King County Permitting has determined that the proposal is likely to have significant adverse impact on the environment. As a result, the project will be required to undergo a full Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) before the permitting process can move forward.
Many of you will recall that, well before this decision was made, I publicly called for a full EIS given the scope of the proposal and the significant concerns raised by the community. At a town hall on the Plateau, where I reiterated that view, the Department of Local Services confirmed that it anticipated issuing a Determination of Significance. The Department also shared that the EIS would be managed by King County—not the applicant—and "these consultants will work for the County".
Ensuring that this project receives a thorough, independent environmental review is extremely important to me, and I am encouraged to share that this important step has been taken. It is now the applicant's responsibility to demonstrate that adverse environmental impacts can be fully mitigated.
With the issuance of the Determination of Significance, the formal environmental review process now begins. This is often a lengthy process that can take a year or more to complete and will include multiple opportunities for public participation.

As you may know, there is currently no application to change the zoning for this proposed land use action. Instead, permitting decisions fall under the jurisdiction of the separately elected King County Executive in the Department of Local Services. However, I will continue to advocate for our community and ensure your voices are heard by the decision-makers in the Department of Local Services.

A meeting on the future of Druids Glenn
My office recently attended a community meeting on the future of Druid's Glen Golf Course. Per my request, it was great to also welcome Director of Local Services (DLS) Leon Richardson and Acting Division Director of Permitting Mark Rowe to help answer community questions.

Ahead of the meeting I wrote to DLS to express my opposition to the proposed redevelopment of Druid's Glen Golf Course and to request that DLS ensure that any related application receives the highest level of scrutiny and environmental review in as transparent a manner as possible. |
Druid's Glen is a rare and valuable opens space for our community. I share the concerns of thousands of my constituents that getting rid of this valuable resource could have numerous negative effects. King County should think twice before allowing such a significant change to an area that provides important recreational, environmental, and rural community benefits.
