 July 13, 2026
As early as Tuesday, July 14, crews will locate and confirm underground utility locations. They do this by digging small holes with a vacuum truck. The survey area is along the temporary sewer diversion pipeline in Auburn. Crews expect to complete this work in about a week. This work will provide important information about underground utility locations. When complete, crews will restore the pavement surface.
The utility survey work will be done in the following locations in Zone 30:
-
O Street NE
-
12th Street NE
-
14th Street NE
See the project map below for more details. You can find by visiting: kingcounty.gov/MStreetTrunkRehab.
- Work will generally occur on weekdays from 7 am to 5 pm on business days.
- All roads will remain open to traffic
- Crews will maintain driveway access
- Temporary restriction of on-street parking in work areas
-
Nearby neighbors may experience noise from the drilling equipment. The noise generated by the trucks is below the City of Auburn's allowable daytime noise limits.
Please watch for equipment and signs in the area, travel slowly, and follow directions from flaggers in the work zone area.
The King County Wastewater Treatment Division is repairing about 2.6 miles of old concrete sewer pipe, in Auburn. We are also repairing 45 maintenance holes and over 100 side sewer connections to homes and businesses. Rehabilitating the M Street Trunk will help preserve aging infrastructure and ensure the reliability of our regional wastewater system.
During the first phase of the project, we repaired 0.7 miles of pipe in 2025. In June 2026, crews began the second phase of the M Street Trunk Rehabilitation Project. Crews are repairing about 1.9 miles of sewer pipe serving the city of Auburn during this phase. Work is taking place between the intersection of 2nd Street Northeast and Pike Street Northeast and 23rd Street Northeast, near the Auburn Municipal Airport (Zones 30 and 36).
We will keep community members informed of project progress and be available to answer questions and address concerns throughout construction. Contact us at 206-263-9878 or email MStTrunkrepair@kingcounty.gov
We will provide additional translations or an interpreter at no cost.
