July is Disability Pride Month!
|
|
Disability Pride Month is celebrated in July to commemorate the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990. The Act increased access and opportunity for people with disabilities and to protect from discrimination.
This month is about challenging the stigma around disability, promoting acceptance, and honoring the diversity and uniqueness of peoples with differing abilities.

New CASAs
On May 29th, 20 new CASA volunteers were sworn in by Lead Dependency Judge Adrienne McCoy in her courtroom at the Clark Children and Family Justice Center. Please help us welcome these new volunteers to the CASA Program!
TO AI OR NOT TO AI - THAT IS THE QUESTION!
As a fairly new technology, Artificial Intelligence is being used frequently in a multitude of ways. It can be your home device adding an item to a shopping cart, a prompt to generate a fitness plan specific to your goals, producing an imaginative image, etc. This may be a tool that you use in everyday life, but have you wondered if it could be used as a CASA volunteer?
The King County Dependency CASA policy is that AI should not be used for any case-related purposes due to the confidential nature of this work.

A meaningful way you can support the King County Dependency CASA program is by helping raise awareness in your community.
We are actively seeking opportunities to connect with businesses, professional associations, alumni networks, retiree groups, faith communities and other organizations throughout King County. Still Time to Sign Up for 201
Join CASA Attorneys, Elizabeth Berris and April Rivera, on Friday, July 10th at 2:00 pm to learn about dependency law, court processes and legal responsibilities for CASAs.
Legal Skills is a mandatory training that each CASA volunteer must take at least once. If you have not yet attended this class, please sign up. The next offering will be in the fall.

Come celebrate their success!
The Parents Supporting Parents program leads this fun-filled event. CASA will have an activity for kids who attend. Thanks to CS Shellie Rousch for participating on the planning committee and to Friends of CASA for sponsoring prizes!
