Today is Juneteenth, a day to commemorate the effective end of chattel slavery in the United States. Juneteenth is an important opportunity to reflect on the progress, achievements and contributions African Americans have made and continue to make in our nation and community.
Councilmember Dunn joins colleagues in signing a proclamation delaring June 19 as Juneteenth.
I was proud to join the Council in recognizing the 161st anniversary of Juneteenth, a profound symbol of freedom and resilience. Together, we can honor our past and celebrate our progress as we move onward in forming a more perfect union.
Councilmember Dunn meets with Derek Sciba, CEO of Vision House.
I recently had the opportunity to stop by Vision House Renton and learn more about the important work they are doing in our community. For more than 35 years, Vision House has helped families experiencing homelessness by providing transitional housing, childcare, and support services designed to help them move from crisis to stability. Their program offers families up to one year of housing while they work toward self-sufficiency and a more secure future.
At a time when homelessness continues to be an enormous challenge in our region, Vision House is making a real difference by helping families regain stability and build a foundation for long-term success. It was inspiring to see firsthand the impact they are having on the lives of parents and children throughout our community.
Thank you to the team for showing me around!
